The Sydney Kings have announced the signing of promising forward Craig Moller as a Development Player for the 2016-17 NBL season.
The 22 year old 202cm (6'8) Moller will become a part of a select group of athletes to have played both Australian rules football and basketball at the elite level.
Head coach Andrew Gaze says he has been impressed by Moller's efforts in proving himself worthy of a spot on the Kings roster.
"Ultimately Craig's selection on the team has come down to his work on the floor. "
"He's demonstrated the capacity to play at the highest level and we think he has a lot of upside. He's a good athlete, has good size and great basketball IQ."
Gaze added, "He's an incredible athlete and I'll certainly give credit to the AFL in regards to his conditioning. His speed, agility and overall fitness is elite."
Moller played with the GWS Giants in the NEAFL, before breaking into the AFL with the Fremantle Dockers in 2013.
"I grew up playing high level basketball and footy. I had to make a decision when I was 14 and I wouldn't change the path my career has taken and I'm really happy to be back playing the sport I really love.
Moller says he's in the perfect environment to succeed.
"It's great learning from Andrew Gaze, his comradery with Lanard Copeland as his assistant, having been in basketball together of so long, combined with Dean Vickerman - a championship-winning coach - it's a perfect situation for me at this time."
The Sydney Kings this weekend will play in the NBL's new preseason tournament, the Australian Basketball Challenge, in Brisbane.
The season opener for the Kings will be against the Brisbane Bullets on October 8th at Qudos Bank Arena.
