Saturday went to the 'dogs, just not No. 1 Georgia.
The top-ranked Bulldogs lost at home to Auburn, an 18.5-point underdog, highlighting an October afternoon during which members of the top 10 were dropping like leaves.
Underdogs Florida and Tennessee pulled SEC upsets, knocking off No. 7 Texas and No. 6 Alabama, respectively. No. 5 Indiana also went down, albeit to favored and fourth-ranked Ohio State.
No. 2 Notre Dame became the fifth team ranked in the top eight to lose Saturday, when No. 8 BYU upset the Fighting Irish as 10.5-point underdogs. It's the first time five teams ranked in the AP Poll top eight have lost on the same day since the poll's inception in 1936, according to ESPN Research.
"It was certainly a good day for the book," Joey Feazel of Caesars Sportsbook told ESPN. "This was one of those college football Saturdays when the 'dogs were barking in the afternoon window."
Auburn, which was 8-1 to beat Georgia straight-up, won 27-24 on a walk-off field goal. Oklahoma did the same to then-No. 1 Texas last week. It's the first time in the AP poll era that the No. 1 team has lost on the final play of the game in consecutive weeks.
Florida rallied from a 17-3 deficit to hand the Longhorns their second straight loss. The Gators got as long as 30-1 in the live odds to win the game at Hard Rock Bet's sportsbook and capitalized on a late fumble by Texas quarterback Arch Manning to secure the upset.
"Florida may be our biggest result of the season," Chase Michaelson, oddsmaker for Circa Sports, told ESPN.
Tennessee capped the trio of afternoon upsets in the SEC, beating Alabama 26-10 as 7.5-point underdogs. The Crimson Tide attracted more money-line bets than any other team on the board Saturday at DraftKings.
A three-team money-line parlay on Auburn, Florida and Tennessee paid around 156-1 at Hard Rock Bet. The sportsbook said it took at least two such parlays at that price, the largest for $10, which won a net $1,565.
