ANDERSON, Ind. -- Andrew Luck’s interception problems lasted all of one practice. That's because the Indianapolis Colts quarterback was back to normal, picking apart the defense in practice.
Luck had one of those afternoons where he showed why he’s one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL. He threw perfectly placed touchdown passes to tight ends Coby Fleener (twice) and Jack Doyle, after which linebackers Erik Walden, Trent Cole and Henoc Muamba headed back to the huddle shaking their heads.
Luck then threw a touchdown pass to receiver Andre Johnson where the ball went right in between cornerback Darius Butler and safety Mike Adams.
Why is it big deal that Luck threw those touchdown passes when you already know he’s good?
It’s because the defense got the better of Luck in the team’s practice Wednesday night. Luck was intercepted three times that night.
Here are some more observations from Friday’s practice:
• Receiver Duron Carter wants to make sure nobody forgets about him when it comes to the competition to be the Colts’ No. 3 receiver. Carter was one of the stars in practice Friday, catching three touchdown passes, including a one-headed grab along the sideline and a fade in the corner. Carter is competing with Donte Moncrief and Phillip Dorsett. “Every day he makes a play that makes you say, ‘Wow.’ He’s a big guy that can accelerate and track the ball,” offensive coordinator Pep Hamilton said. “Like I just said, every day he will make a play at some point over the course of practice that will get your attention and let you know why it’s important to have guys that can just go up and make a play and take the ball out of the air.”
• Receiver T.Y. Hilton was excused from practice for personal reasons. Running back Josh Robinson didn’t practice because of soreness.
