The Red River recruiting wars are beginning to get fun again.
This week, Oklahoma assistant coach Kerry Cooks tweeted that "false prophets" are "lurking," and included a picture of a wolf in sheep's clothing.
Young ones beware "real recognize real" lots of false prophets lurking 🤥🤥🤥🤥🤥 pic.twitter.com/8iyy5rvHTE

Cooks didn't direct the tweet to any specific school. But it wasn't hard to draw conclusions.
In recent weeks, new Texas coach Tom Herman and his staff had successfully clashed with the Sooners on the recruiting trail. The Longhorns have gone into Oklahoma's backyard and snagged QB Casey Thompson, the son of former Sooner QB Charles Thompson. They picked up a commitment from Oklahoma City ESPN 300 defensive end Ron Tatum III. And they also flipped QB Cameron Rising from OU to Texas.
In the wake of the recruiting victories, the Longhorns let the Sooners know about it, too.
Ain't no river wide enough🤘🏾

Wednesday, Herman's wife, Michelle, connected the dots on Cooks' wolf tweet, and responded with a wolf tweet of her own.
Longhorns out there hunting like wolves 😉🤘🏼 #ThisIsTexas pic.twitter.com/88Da8PAgGr

The Red River back-and-forth overshadowed the latest subtweet that Oklahoma QB Baker Mayfield lobbed at Oklahoma State.
Should have put the whole video on there... "rivalry" lol. Our House and Our Conference as well. Numbers and wins don't lie. https://t.co/o0WRe4aNyw

Mayfield, of course, was referring to Oklahoma's 38-20 victory over the Cowboys last season. With Mayfield behind center, the Sooners have now won two straight Bedlam showdowns when the Big 12 title has been on the line.
