News: 3 days agoAllar completed 10 of 13 passes for 153 yards and two touchdowns while adding two rushing yards and another TD on two carries in Thursday's 28-9 preseason win over the Packers.

Spin: The rookie third-round pick didn't see the field until late in the third quarter after Mason Rudolph and Will Howard had both gotten work under center, but Allar had the best night of any Steelers QB. Allar scored on a three-yard run to cap his first possession of the game before tossing a five-yard TD to Kaden Wetjen and a four-yard score to Riley Nowakowski in the fourth quarter. Aaron Rodgers is the unquestioned starter for Pittsburgh and Rudolph seems locked in as the top backup, but the team seems likely to keep both Howard and Allar on the roster rather than risk losing one of them to another team.

ESPN Fantasy Projection: Allar was selected by the Steelers in the third round of April's draft. Allar is one of the biggest quarterbacks in this rookie class and, while he has the arm to go with his frame, accuracy is a big concern. Allar was conservative during his time at Penn State (7.6 aDOT), but he still completed only 63% of his passes and averaged 7.4 yards per attempt. In 2025, he had the worst QBR in this rookie class prior to suffering a season-ending broken ankle. On the plus side, he could add value with his legs, as he posted a career 181-1,030-12 rushing line and his 8.3% scramble rate is second highest in this class. Allar will begin his career learning the ropes behind Aaron Rodgers and perhaps Mason Rudolph.
