Source: Big 12 in no rush to pull lawsuit over Sorsby eligibility

The Big 12 presidents and chancellors haven’t yet pulled the league’s recently filed federal lawsuit because there are still questions about Texas Tech quarterback Brendan Sorsby’s NFL future and any possible legal retribution, a Big 12 source told ESPN on Friday evening. The Big 12 board of directors is expected to have a call early next week, sources said, to discuss next steps. A Big 12 AD said some leaders also want Texas Tech to pay the legal fees accumulated from the squabble.

MLB added its voice to the pro sports organizations supporting the Protect College Sports Act. ESPN obtained a statement sent to Congress on Wednesday: “College baseball has undergone a remarkable transformation over the last several years and has become an increasingly important pathway for future professional baseball players. On issues such as player eligibility, The Protect College Sports Act will help to ensure its continued growth, which is good for all levels of the sport.”

The NFL, NFLPA and NBPA on Tuesday sent statements to Congress supporting the Protect College Sports Act and lauding specific provisions it includes while also encouraging further dialogue to get Congress to approve it. The NFL voiced its support for “the voluntary pooling of media rights under the Sports Broadcasting Act,” which is something the SEC and Big Ten have opposed.
