Throughout Women's History Month, espnW will present "History in the Making," a continued collection of stories recognizing contemporary sports figures' voices, achievements, contributions and more.
This year also marks the 50th anniversary of Title IX (effective June 23, 1972), the federal civil rights law prohibiting sex-based discrimination in any educational institution receiving federal funding, giving women the equal opportunity to play. The "History in the Making" collection will, in part, explore the accomplishments of athletes that the legislation has directly impacted. In addition, in June, ESPN will launch its "Fifty/50 Month" initiative, a wide-ranging content plan focused on the intersection of women, sports, culture and the fight for equality.
