Former U.S. women's soccer player Lauren Holiday had surgery Thursday to remove a benign tumor from the right side of her brain.
Holiday, a member of the Americans' 2015 World Cup championship team, gave birth to a healthy girl late last month.
Her husband, New Orleans Pelicans guard Jrue Holiday, has been away from the team during training camp and the preseason as Lauren had their daughter and prepared for surgery. He is expected to miss an indefinite number of regular-season games as a result.
Jrue Holiday's agent, Jason Glushon, said in a statement on Saturday that Lauren's surgery was performed at Duke University Hospital, and she will stay in North Carolina to continue with the treatment.
"Thank you everyone for your kind thoughts and support for Lauren and Jrue Holiday over the last several months," Glushon said in the statement. "Lauren Holiday will continue to recover in North Carolina with her husband Jrue and daughter Jrue Tyler. During this time, we ask that you respect the family's privacy and keep them in your thoughts and prayers."
The child's due date had been mid-October, but the Holidays planned to induce labor sooner to expedite Lauren's surgery.
Holiday's doctors have said they believe she should return to full health.
