News: 8 hours agoTowns expressed frustration Sunday regarding his ongoing contract negotiations with the Knicks, Steve Popper of Newsday reports.
Spin: "Simply put, I want to do something that can keep the team together, and that can work with the Knicks and also values me," Towns said. "And, I mean, none of those things have come close to happening." Towns is eligible for a four-year extension worth roughly $277 million and has indicated a willingness to take less than the maximum to help New York retain its championship core, but the Knicks have reportedly offered around $200 million. The 30-year-old remains under contract for 2026-27 and holds a $61 million player option for 2027-28, so the stalled negotiations don't create an immediate availability concern.
ESPN Fantasy Projection: Towns modified his game last season to fit in with his strong Knicks teammates, turning in his lowest scoring average (20.1 PPG) since his rookie season with his fewest 3-pointers (1.5 3PG) since 2018-19. On the positive side, Towns still has averaged more than 20 PPG in 10 straight seasons and has posted 12.4 RPG in his two seasons with the Knicks, his best marks since 2018-19. Towns also emerged in the playoffs as a strong passer that can generate big assist numbers, should the team decide to run more offense through him.
