Murphy, Northeastern rally from 13 points down, beat Vermont
BURLINGTON, Vt. -- Alex Murphy had 20 points, nine rebounds and three blocked shots, T.J. Williams scored 17 points and Northeastern rallied from a 13-point deficit to beat Vermont 59-57 on Saturday.
Williams had a steal and then hit a 3-pointer to cap a 21-4 run that gave Northeastern (5-5) a 54-47 lead with 2:31 left. Murphy's 3-point play during that stretch gave the Huskies their first lead of the game, 49-47, with five minutes to play.
Trae Bell-Haynes hit Payton Henson for a layup and then made a layup of his own to make it 56-all with 42 seconds remaining but, after Jeremy Miller's layup on the other end, Vermont missed its final three field-goal attempts and made just 1 of 2 free throws and Northeastern held on.
Bell-Haynes led Vermont (7-4) with 15 points.
Northeastern shot 34.8 percent and committed 13 turnovers during an 18-point first half -- its lowest scoring half of the season. The Huskies made 17 of 25 (68 percent) from the field after halftime.
