BALTIMORE -- Many Ravens players thought they had won Sunday's game against Jacksonville and insisted the Jaguars didn't get the final offensive snap off before time expired.
In the wild 22-20 loss, three Baltimore players -- linebacker Courtney Upshaw, cornerback Jimmy Smith and safety Anthony Levine -- could be seen raising their arms in celebration as quarterback Blake Bortles dropped back to pass with no time remaining in the game. Linebacker Elvis Dumervil grabbed Bortles' facemask, a 15-yard penalty that allowed the Jaguars to kick the winning, 53-yard field goal.
"I saw zeros on the clock, so I started jumping up and down," Smith said. "I thought the game was over. It got put in the refs' hands, and they made the call, and we lost."
It was close, but CBS replays showed the Jaguars got the snap off with one second left on the clock.
"We all thought the game was over," Upshaw said. "I'm pretty sure everybody in the stadium thought the game was over, but they end up kicking a field goal to win the game."
Smith called the Dumervil penalty "a gift."
"You're not allowed to say anything about the refs, so nothing can be said," Smith said. "We feel like the game was ... it got taken out of my hands."
It was another frustrating defeat for the Ravens, who fell to 2-7 on the season. A Ravens player could be heard in the locker room screaming, "The refs f----- us."
Ravens coach John Harbaugh said he couldn't tell whether time had expired on the final play from scrimmage.
"It was chaotic," he said.
