News: 1 day agoHead coach Jared Bednar told reporters Friday that he will not be the one to end Burns' ironman streak, Jesse Montano of Guerilla Sports reports.

Spin: Burns has the longest active ironman streak in the NHL, having played in 1,007 consecutive regular-season games since the streak began in 2013. The defenseman sits 58 games away from surpassing Phil Kessel's record. Bednar's comments indicate that as long as Burns avoids injuries and illness in 2026-27, he will get the chance to set the record. Burns had 35 points, 172 shots on net, 91 blocked shots and a plus-33 rating over 82 regular-season contests in 2025-26, so he could still carve out enough fantasy value to help in a depth capacity.

ESPN Fantasy Projection: Burns recently completed his 22nd NHL season and first in Colorado. He tallied double-digit goals (12) for the fourth time in five years, while adding 35 points and a plus-33 rating. Predictably, Burns' role with the man advantage has evaporated in the latter stages of his career. Averaging well under a minutes' worth of power-play time per game (0:41), Burns managed just a single point a man up in 2025-26. The 41-year-old inked a one-year, $850K deal to return to the Avalanche next season, although expectations should obviously be kept in check given his age and the fact his role has already decreased significantly. Burns' greatest asset at this point is his durability. He has played in all 82 games each of the past five years.
