Brisbane's triple premiership-winning coach Chris Fagan has coached his last game at the club, despite still having a year to run on his contract.
Fagan, who coached the Lions to a third successive flag last Saturday, made the call to step down from his role after 10 years of service. The 65-year-old announced his decision to the playing group on Thursday ahead of the club's best and fairest night.
Taking over senior coaching duties at Brisbane in 2017, Fagan led the club for 243 games and 148 wins, including the last three premierships. He walks away as one of just six men in history to coach a three-peat.
Football manager Danny Daly, who left a career in banking to join Collingwood in 2000 before stints at North Melbourne and Richmond, and assistant coach Cameron Bruce are among the top early candidates to take over.
Fagan has also heaped praise on backline coach Dale Morris, who suggested the idea of using "Wharfie Time" to motivate the Lions if the Dockers reached for the button in the Grand Final.
