CHICAGO -- The Chicago White Sox will get in one more doubleheader before the season ends after Friday’s game against the Minnesota Twins was postponed because of the forecast of rain.
The teams will now play a straight doubleheader starting at 3:10 p.m. Saturday at U.S. Cellular Field.
The White Sox announced that Friday’s scheduled starter Jose Quintana will pitch in the first game of the doubleheader, while Saturday’s scheduled starter Scott Carroll will pitch in the second game. The Twins will start Phil Hughes in Game 1 and Logan Darnell in the second game.
It will be the second consecutive homestand the White Sox have played host to a doubleheader after splitting one with the Detroit Tigers on Aug. 30. For the Twins, it will be their second consecutive doubleheader after getting swept by the Cleveland Indians on Thursday.
The White Sox say that the second game Saturday will begin 30 minutes after the conclusion of the first game, although that second game will start no earlier than 6:10 p.m., which is the original time that Saturday’s game was to begin.
The team also said that all parking coupons and tickets to Friday’s game are now considered gift certificates that can be redeemed for any future regular season game, including future seasons.
Friday’s Irish flat cap giveaway now will be moved to Sept. 25 against the Kansas City Royals. Saturday’s giveaway of a Paul Konerko baseball card with a piece of his game-worn uniform for the first 20,000 fans will begin when the gates open Saturday at 2:10 p.m.
It is just the third postponed game all season for the White Sox, who were also rained out on June 10 against the Tigers and June 30 against the Los Angeles Angels.
