DALLAS -- Second-year swingman Ricky Ledo will be released by the Dallas Mavericks to make room on the roster for Amar'e Stoudemire, a source said.
Ledo, the 43rd overall pick in the 2013 draft, is a developmental project who has received most of his professional playing time with the D-League Texas Legends. He scored 20 points in 16 games for the Mavs over the last two seasons.
“We talked to Ledo today and informed him that if the Stoudemire transaction goes through, that he will be waived tomorrow afternoon, just after 4 p.m," coach Rick Carlisle said after Tuesday's practice. "If something happens and the Stoudemire transaction doesn’t go through, then he’ll remain with the Mavericks.”
The Mavs opted to keep center Bernard James, who is on a 10-day contract, over Ledo.
Ledo wore No. 1 with the Mavs, the number Stoudemire wore with the Phoenix Suns and New York Knicks.
Stoudemire has committed to join the Mavs and is eligible to officially sign with Dallas at 4 p.m. CT Wednesday when he clears waivers.
Real GM earlier reported that Ledo had been informed of plans to release him.
