ARLINGTON, Texas -- Texas Rangers GM Jon Daniels said he hopes to have a new full-time manager in place inside the month of October.
Tim Bogar has been serving in the position on an interim basis ever since Ron Washington resigned as manager Sept. 5. Bogar is 10-6 since taking over and his club has won nine of its last 10 games.
"I wouldn’t put a date on it, but I would say the inside of October and once free agency hits and the offseason really starts, I would like to have all the staffing stuff behind us," Daniels said. "I want the manager to be a part of our offseason plans."
Bogar has already made an impact with his communication style, inserting Leonys Martin into the leadoff spot and using of different players at the No. 3 position in the batting order. Bogar has started 31-year old rookie Guilder Rodriguez with several rookie infielders, including Luis Sardinas and Rougned Odor.
Of course, Bogar might have his choice of jobs.
With the Houston Astros job also available, he could get an interview with that organization too.
"He's doing a good job, obviously the wins and losses (notwithstanding)," Daniels said. "But I think the bigger picture, the communication and the energy level that the club has shown, I think those are all positives, and some of it, where we are in the season, and a lot of guys with something to prove and not a lot to lose. It's been all positive, but Tim has done a very good job."
