GLENDALE, Ariz. -- Andre Ethier was running around between practice fields Monday, but the Los Angeles Dodgers’ projected Opening Day left fielder was not taking any swings as he nurses a sore hand.
According to manager Dave Roberts, Ethier has a “lower-hand contusion,” and he will get an extra day between playing in games to see if that is enough to calm down the discomfort.
Ethier has a history of hand issues that result from pinching the bottom of his right hand on the knob of the bat when he swings.
Ethier has played in two of the Dodgers’ first four Cactus League games, collecting two hits in four at-bats with a run scored.
In other injury news, Justin Turner is expected to get four or five at-bats in a minor-league game Tuesday as he continues his rehab from offseason microfracture surgery on his left knee. There still is no date on when Turner might play in his first Cactus League game.
Hyun-Jin Ryu, who has not pitched off a mound in 10 days as he recovers from offseason shoulder surgery, was expected to throw a light bullpen Monday. Pitcher Julio Urias, who has been nursing a sore groin since last week, was also expected to throw a bullpen session Monday.
Alex Guerrero, who has been experience both knee and back discomfort, keeping him from games over the weekend, is expected to be the Dodgers' designated hitter Tuesday at Mesa against the Chicago Cubs.
