DENVER -- The Los Angeles Dodgers revealed a quartet of players who will be added to their expanded roster this week and Yasiel Puig was not one of them.
That does not mean that Puig is ineligible to be added later. Teams typically make September call-ups in waves, first on Sept. 1 on the first day rosters can be expanded up to 40 players, then when the minor league regular season ends and finally when the minor league playoffs end.
According to ESPN's Jim Bowden, Puig will not be traded to the team that reportedly claimed him on trade waivers this week, so the Dodgers can add the slugging outfielder to the September mix if they are so inclined.
Triple-A Oklahoma City, where Puig currently plays, advanced to the playoffs, which will start at the end of next week. Most minor league regular seasons end Monday.
Manager Dave Roberts revealed Wednesday that he expects to have catcher/infielder Austin Barnes and pitchers Luis Avilan, Josh Ravin and Louis Coleman available to the major league club this weekend.
"Outside of that, we're still trying to figure out what is best for Yasiel," Roberts said Wednesday morning, without being asked specifically about Puig. "Those are the names that initially will be here, but with Yasiel, that is still a possibility. But we're still trying to figure out what is best for him and what is best for us."
Dodgers president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman was asked Tuesday if Puig was in the mix to be added to an expanded Dodgers roster.
"I don't know the answer to that yet," Friedman said.
