Justin Smoak had his first game with multiple extra-base hits in more than a year in the Toronto Blue Jays’ 7-2 win over the Miami Marlins on Wednesday.
Smoak was 2-for-4 with a double and a home run. He entered the game with seven extra-base hits in 46 games this season. He hadn’t had a game with multiple extra-base hits since May 3, 2014, when he was with the Mariners.
Josh Donaldson was 2-for-4 with his 17th home run of the season. He has five home runs in nine interleague games and 12 in 52 games against American League opponents this season.
In his first major league start (his third major league appearance), Scott Copeland allowed six hits and one earned run in seven innings.
The win was the Blue Jays’ eighth in a row. They are 31-30, their first time above .500 since they were 16-15 on May 9.
