Scott Copeland (1-0, 0.90 ERA) will take the mound for the Toronto Blue Jays to start against Matt Harvey (6-4, 3.62 ERA) and the New York Mets on Tuesday night at Citi Field.
Copeland made his first major league start in a 7-2 win over Miami on Wednesday. He pitched seven innings, allowing one run on six hits and walking none.
The Elias Sports Bureau notes that the only other Blue Jays pitcher who had similar results in his first career major league start was Jose Nunez. He lasted eight innings and allowed one run and no walks in his first start, against the Royals on July 9, 1987. No major league pitcher in the modern era (since 1900) has, in each of his first two career starts, lasted seven or more innings, allowed one or zero runs and not walked a batter.
