The Los Angeles Angels will need to choose a replacement in the rotation for Matt Shoemaker, and one of the options is the recently demoted Tim Lincecum.

Shoemaker had surgery Sunday night to stop additional bleeding in his skull after getting hit in the head by a line drive in Sunday’s outing against the Seattle Mariners. Angels general manager Billy Eppler told reporters Monday the surgery was successful.
Lincecum gave up one run in seven innings in his final start for Triple-A Salt Lake on Sunday and is in the mix for a promotion, reports Jeff Fletcher of the Orange County Register. Fletcher lists Jhoulys Chacin, Brett Oberholtzer and Daniel Wright, who was recently claimed off waivers from the Cincinnati Reds, as other candidates for a starting job.
Lincecum was 2-6 with a 9.16 ERA and a 2.37 WHIP in nine starts for the Angels before he was designated for assignment. The two-time Cy Young Award winner has been inconsistent at Salt Lake, but his best outing came Sunday, when he threw 61 of 96 pitches for strikes, reports Carter Williams of KSL.com.
