The Portland Trail Blazers fully guaranteed Chris Kaman's $5 million salary for the 2015-16 season when they did not waive him by the June 30 deadline. Kaman may have secured his salary, but that doesn't mean he will remain with Portland for the entire season. From Jabari Young of CSNNW.com:
- "Thing is, at age 33, Kaman doesn’t appear to fit with that youth model. When asked about the status of Kaman, (GM Neil) Olshey said: 'Chris is clearly on a different path than the group of guys that are going to get the majority of the playing time.' So what now? Do the Blazers trade the oldest player on their roster? Find a home for Kaman where he can truly compete for a title? Olshey explained that Kaman’s contract number wasn’t something that would hurt the team’s salary cap, but added if a trade made sense, it would certainly be explored. ... As of now, Kaman’s future is to be determined. The Blazers say he wants to be back, as he’s grown to love Portland, but he probably won’t get much playing time. Kaman will make his money whether he plays or not, but if Leonard and the other bigs can continue to develop with his assistance, that $5 million price tag might be worth it."
