The Philadelphia 76ers selected J.P. Tokoto with the 58th pick in the 2015 NBA draft. The team preferred Tokoto play overseas for the 2015-16 season, but he was set on going to training camp with them and Monday he agreed to a deal. From CSN Philly:
- "Tokoto has agreed to a one-year, non-guaranteed contract with the Sixers, a league source confirmed to CSNPhilly.com's John Finger. ... The 21-year-old signed a non-guaranteed tender offer, which clears the way for him to become a restricted free agent in 2016. The Sixers would have to make him a qualifying offer at the conclusion of the 2015-16 season to keep matching rights. If they don't tender Tokoto an offer, he could enter the market as an unrestricted free agent."
Tokoto played for the Sixers in the Utah and Las Vegas summer leagues and made seven appearances. He averaged 5.7 points and 4.1 rebounds during those events. Tokoto is a long-shot to make the regular season roster and if he's waived, he will become an unrestricted free agent.
