Former Phoenix Suns guard Archie Goodwin has emerged as a likely signee for the New Orleans Pelicans, league sources told ESPN.com’s Marc Stein.
The Pelicans need a backcourt boost after learning Saturday that Lance Stephenson needs groin surgery and will be out indefinitely. One option, sources said Sunday, is New Orleans waiving Stephenson to create a roster spot for Goodwin, but no final decisions have been made yet.
New Orleans was already playing without starting point guard Jrue Holiday (personal reasons) and two veteran scorers recovering from knee surgery -- Tyreke Evans and Quincy Pondexter -- when Stephenson went down.
