With Brandon Knight out for the entire 2017-18 NBA season with a torn left ACL and rookie Davon Reed sidelined four to six months after undergoing surgery to repair a meniscus issue in his left knee, the Phoenix Suns will enter training camp in late September short on depth in the backcourt. Will the Suns target guards to fill out their preseason roster?

"I think we will lean toward younger guys, with the mid-to-late 20s being the upper limit of what we'll look at," Suns general manager Ryan McDonough told The Arizona Republic. "Is there one guy out there who could be an exception to that? Maybe. But I think that will be the target of the initial process, somebody who fits with the timeline of our young core."
With less than four weeks until training camp opens, the Suns might bring in some young free-agent backcourt prospects in the next 7-14 days to see if any warrant a contract, according to McDonough.
The Suns can also shift Derrick Jones Jr. and TJ Warren from small forward to shooting guard to take up the backup minutes behind starter Devin Booker.
