PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. -- The New York Mets shipped second-base prospect Dilson Herrera as well as three former first-round picks -- Brandon Nimmo, Gavin Cecchini and Dominic Smith -- to minor league camp on Tuesday morning.
Also dispatched to the minor league side of the complex: right-handers Robert Gsellman, Seth Lugo, Stolmy Pimentel, Gabriel Ynoa and Jeff Walters, left-handers Duane Below and Josh Smoker, infielder Marc Krauss and outfielder Travis Taijeron.
Herrera departed Monday for a World Baseball Classic qualifying tournament in Panama.
Nimmo, the organization's first-round pick in 2011, never participated in a Grapefruit League game. He tore a tendon in his left foot before camp and has been making progress toward a return, although he has yet to run full bore.
The Mets now have 39 players in camp.
