BINGHAMTON 2, NEW HAMPSHIRE 1: Jeff McNeil went 2-for-4 with a homer, double and two RBIs and Robert Gsellman struck out seven batters in 5 2/3 strong innings. Melky Mesa homered off the videoboard in right-center against Gsellman in the second to put the Fisher Cats ahead 1-0. Binghamton evened the score in the third when McNeil turned on Jeremy Gabryszwski's offfering and deposited it over the right-field wall. Gsellman took control from that point and did not allow another hit until the sixth. After retiring the first two batters he faced in that frame, Gsellman surrendered a single to Roemon Fields and walked Jon Berti. Kelly Secrest entered and retired Dwight Smith Jr. on a pop fly. Gsellman finished with one run allowed on two hits and two walks. The score remained tied until the eighth, when Kyle Johnson and McNeil consecutively doubled to open the frame, giving the B-Mets a 2-1 lead. Akeel Morris set the Fisher Cats down in order in the ninth to pick up his first save. Logan Taylor earned the win with one hit and one strikeout in a scoreless eighth. Box
JUPITER 5, ST. LUCIE 3: Wuilmer Becerra laced a two-run single in the eighth that cut the Mets' deficit to two runs, but Jupiter reliever Kyle Fischer coaxed an inning-ending groundout from Champ Stuart with the bases loaded. Alberto Baldonado had surrendered two runs in the seventh as Jupiter took a 5-1 lead. John Norwood led the offense for the Hammerheads. He delivered a two-out, two-run triple in the fourth that put Jupiter ahead 2-1. He also scored on wild pitches in the fourth and in the seventh. Mets starter Chris Flexen allowed three runs in six innings and struck out five in his Florida State League debut. Reliever Tim Peterson pitched two perfect innings, striking out five of the six batters he faced. Jupiter’s Jose Velez struck out the side in the ninth. Tomas Nido produced his second straight two-hit game in the loss. Patrick Biondi doubled, walked and was hit by a pitch in his debut. Jupiter starter Luis Castillo limited the Mets to one run in five innings. Box
CHARLESTON 5, COLUMBIA 4: David Thompson and Vicente Lupo both doubled and scored in the top of the ninth -- the latter on a game-tying two-out single by Milton Ramos. However, Witt Haggard allowed a walk-off RBI single to Jhalan Jackson in the bottom half as the Fireflies dropped to 0-2 in franchise history. Thompson and J.C. Rodriguez had delivered consecutive RBI singles in the first inning as the Fireflies took a 2-0 lead. Christian Montgomery was charged with three runs (two earned) in the sixth as Charleston turned a 2-1 deficit into a 4-2 lead. Former 11th-round pick Ty Bashlor contributed two scoreless relief innings in his first appearance since undergoing Tommy John surgery in May 2014. Box
