VIERA, Fla. -- Daniel Murphy continued to ramp up his baseball activity Thursday at the New York Mets' complex in Port St. Lucie.
Murphy ran for the first time since suffering a pulled right hamstring last Thursday and had no apparent discomfort, manager Terry Collins said. Murphy began hitting off a tee Wednesday.
General manager Sandy Alderson has expressed optimism Murphy will be ready for Opening Day in Washington on April 6.
Collins said he still wants to see how Murphy feels Friday, the day after resuming running.
Asked about his confidence level that Murphy will avoid a season-opening DL stint, Collins said: "Too early."
