MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- Led by two rushing touchdowns from quarterback Greg Jenkins, Alabama State beat Mississippi Valley State 29-7 Saturday night.
Jenkins ran for touchdowns of 14 and 9 yards in the first quarter. Those scores, paired with a 15-yard touchdown run by Isaiah Crowell, helped the Hornets (1-1, 1-0 Southwestern Athletic Conference) jump to a 20-0 lead before the end of the quarter.
Jenkins finished 13-of-21 passing for 130 yards in addition to his 91 rushing yards on 13 attempts. The two running scores give him four through the Hornets' first two games this season after he ran for seven a year ago.
Crowell would score again in the second quarter, a 3-yarder, and finished with 66 yards on 13 carries.
The Hornets' defense held Mississippi Valley State (0-2, 0-1) to 48 yards passing and forced five fumbles.
For the Delta Devils, Brandon Stansell carried the ball 16 times for 177 yards.
