Prairie View A&M Panthers @ Jackson State Tigers
Jackson St. 34, Prairie View 13
JACKSON, Miss. -- Willie Bell recovered a Prairie View A&M fumble in the end zone with 27 seconds left in the third quarter to break a tie and spark Jackson State to a 34-13 Southwestern Athletic Conference victory Saturday night.
The Tigers (2-3, 2-2) tacked on two fourth-quarter touchdowns and haven't lost at home to the Panthers (0-5, 0-3) since 1970.
Bell's recovery of a fumble by punter Travis Jatzlau came after the Tigers had backed the Panthers into a fourth-and-14 from their 8-yard line.
After Prairie View led 10-0 at halftime, Jackson State battled back in the third quarter with a strong running game led by Tommy Gooden, who finished with 135 yards on 18 carries.
The Tigers amassed 256 yards rushing and 80 passing, after passing for 302 of their 378 yards last week in a loss to Southern University.
