SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Garrett Safron threw for 303 yards and four touchdowns to lead Sacramento State to a 35-29 victory against Cal Poly on Saturday night.
Safron completed 31 of 38 passes for the Hornets (6-3, 4-2 Big Sky). Morris Norrise had 97 yards and two touchdowns on seven catches.
Deonte Williams rushed for 168 yards on 22 carries for the Mustangs (7-1, 5-1). Cal Poly had 387 yards on the ground.
With Sacramento State holding a 28-23 lead, Safron hit Norrise with a 32-yard touchdown pass with 3:09 to play, culminating a four-play, 59-yard drive. Andre Broadous hit Willie Tucker for a 44-yard TD to get Cal Poly within six points, but the Hornets recovered the ensuing onside kick and ran the last 2:10 off the clock.
After Cal Poly turned two fumble recoveries by linebacker Nick Dzubnar into a 10-0 lead, Safron threw touchdown passes to Norrise, Shane Harrison and T. J. Knowles, and Ezekiel Graham had a 15-yard scoring run to give the Hornets a 28-17 halftime lead.
