Jacksonville State crushes Austin Peay 42-10
CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. -- DaMarcus James set a school record with five rushing touchdowns to lead Jacksonville State to a crushing 42-10 victory over Austin Peay on Saturday night.
James ran for 102 yards on 19 carries and four of his touchdowns were from 3 yards out or less. The win improves Jacksonville State's road record to 5-0 and keeps alive its outside shot at capturing the Ohio Valley Conference championship.
The Gamecocks (7-2, 3-2 OVC) scored first as Rashod Byers intercepted the Governors' Jacob Sexton and returned it 95 yards for a touchdown. Austin Peay (0-9, 0-5) started the second quarter with a 34-yard field goal. Four unanswered rushing touchdowns by James followed, leaving the Governors trailing 35-3 midway through the third quarter.
Omar Williams, making his first start, led Austin Peay with 179 yards rushing on 35 carries. The Governors are 3-24 dating back to the 2011 season.
