New Hampshire survives Stony Brook, 28-20
DURHAM, N.H. -- Cam Shorey blocked Graham Ball's potential game-tying extra point, Jimmy Owens broke a 51-yard touchdown run on the ensuing drive, and New Hampshire held on to beat Stony Brook 28-20 on Saturday.
Trailing 21-14 late in the fourth, Stony Brook drove 43 yards on four plays, capped by Conor Bednarski's 31-yard touchdown pass to Adrian Coxson, cutting the Wildcats' lead to 21-20 and setting up Shorey's and Owens' game-saving plays.
Owens led New Hampshire (6-1, 4-0 Colonial Athletic Association) with 74 yards on seven carries and quarterback Andy Vailas added 131 yards passing and 55 rushing with two scores.
Bednarski finished with 227 yards and two touchdown passes, and Coxson and Donavin Washington each went over 100 yards receiving for Stony Brook (4-5, 3-2). The Seawolves' final possession ended when Bednarski fumbled after a sack by Cody Muller and the ball was recovered by Matt Kaplan.
