Furman Paladins @ South Carolina State Bulldogs
South Carolina State beats FCS-ranked Furman 17-7
ORANGEBURG, S.C. -- Jalen Simmons' 3-yard touchdown run with 2:24 remaining ensured a 17-7 victory for South Carolina State over FCS-ranked Furman on Saturday night.
Simmons' score came after the Paladins had to punt from their own 18 and the Bulldogs' Austin Smith returned it to the Furman 3.
South Carolina State's Mykal Moody passed 25 yards to Dennis Rowe to complete a 92-yard drive for a 7-0 lead in the first quarter. Tyler Scandrett added a 22-yard field goal for a 10-0 halftime advantage.
Dillon Woodruff, a redshirt freshman making his second start at quarterback after a season-ending injury to Reese Hannon in the Paladins' opener, put Furman on the board with a 36-yard pass to Logan McCarter in the third quarter.
The victory gave the Bulldogs (2-2) a measure of revenge after losing to the Paladins (2-2) in the first round of the FCS playoffs last season.
