Eastern Kentucky rolls over Austin Peay 51-13
RICHMOND, Ky. -- Bennie Coney completed 28 of 35 passes for 261 yards and a touchdown and Ethan Thomas ran for two touchdowns to lead Eastern Kentucky to a 51-13 win over Austin Peay in the Ohio Valley Conference opener for both teams Saturday night.
Backup quarterback Kyle Romano completed 3 of 4 passes and a touchdown. The Colonels (2-1) piled up 421 yards and converted 11 of 17 third downs.
Lucas Williams kicked three field goals and Coney hit Joel Brown for a 6-yard touchdown before Trey Taylor's 1-yard run put Austin Peay (0-4) on the board.
Thomas Owens had a 17-yard interception return with two minutes left in the first half and Thomas had a 9-yarder for a score at 41 seconds for a 30-7 lead.
Adam Lane and Thomas had short runs and Romano connected with Taylor Miller on a 6-yard score in the third.
