Special teams key as Bryant outlasts St Francis (Pa) 26-24
SMITHFIELD, R.I. -- Brandon Owens and Jose Depadua both scored touchdowns on special teams, and Bryant held off St. Francis (Pa.) 26-24 on Saturday.
Bryant built a 26-3 lead early in the third quarter, but Saint Francis scored 21 straight.
Depadua returned the opening kickoff 93 yards, while Owens' score came after DJ Davis blocked a punt. Owens scooped the loose ball and returned it 16 yards, giving Bryant (4-3, 2-1 Northeast Conference) a 26-3 lead.
Khairi Dickson scored on a 5-yard run to cut Saint Francis' deficit to two points with 1:31 remaining. On the 2-point conversion attempt, Zack Drayer's pass to William Martin in the corner of the end zone was incomplete. The Red Flash attempted an onside kick but it was unsuccessful.
Dickson ran 20 times for 130 yards and two touchdowns for Saint Francis (3-3, 1-1). Drayer finished 22 of 37 for 259 yards and a touchdown.
