Morehead State blanks Davidson 34-0 behind Gahafer
MOREHEAD, Ky. -- Austin Gahafer threw for four touchdowns and Morehead State blanked Davidson 34-0 in a Pioneer League opener on Saturday.
Gahafer completed touchdown passes of 11 and 73 yards to Justin Cornwall for the first two scores as the Eagles (2-2, 1-0) raced to a 27-0 halftime lead. Gahafer's other two scoring throws were 20 yards to Jake Raymond and 42 yards to Darius Pritchett. Shavi Bash added a pair of field goals.
Gahafer finished 19 of 35 for 281 yards. Cornwall had 95 yards receiving on four catches. Rob Harden added another 108 yards rushing, a career high. Gahafer has figured in all 14 Eagles touchdowns this season, throwing for 11 and rushing for the other three.
Morehead State outgained the Wildcats 440-254. Two Davidson (0-3, 0-1) quarterbacks combined to complete just 9 of 25 passes for 64 yards and two interceptions against an Eagles defense led by Colt Briggs, who had a career-high 10 tackles.
The victory was Morehead State's fourth in a row victory in a row over Davidson.
Morehead State, which defeated Kentucky Christian 28-0 in its previous game, has put together consecutive shutouts for the first time since 1979 when it blanked Austin Peay and Tennessee-Martin by 7-0 scores.
