Sam Houston State rolls over Abilene Christian 49-21
ABILENE, Texas -- Jared Johnson threw for five touchdowns as Sam Houston State overwhelmed Abilene Christian 49-21 in Southland Conference play on Saturday.
Johnson completed 17 of 24 passes for 250 yards. LaDarius Brown grabbed six passes for 108 yards and one touchdown. Cory Avery rushed for 98 yards and one score on six carries.
Sam Houston State (4-2, 4-1), after opening the season with losses to Texas Tech and Lamar, has now won four consecutive games. SHSU has outscored its opponents 133-66 in the second half.
The Bearkats struck early when Johnson hit Brown on a 64-yard scoring strike with 13:41 left in the first quarter. They had a 28-0 lead going into the second quarter and were up 35-7 at the break.
Parker McKenzie led Abilene Christian (2-4, 2-3), throwing for 106 yards on 6-of-12 passing, but he was also intercepted twice.
