Henderson has 158 yards; Coastal Carolina beats Lamar 38-14
BEAUMONT, Texas -- De'Angelo Henderson ran for 158 yards and two touchdowns to lead Coastal Carolina to a 38-14 victory over Lamar on Saturday night.
Henderson, a senior from Summerville, S.C., tied Virginia Tech's Lee Suggs' NCAA Division I record, scoring in his 27th straight game.
Lamar took an early lead as Kade Harrington, who finished with 207 yards, broke for scoring runs of 59 and 64 yards to give Lamar a 14-3 advantage at the half.
The Chanticleers quickly took control in the second half as Richie Sampson intercepted Lamar's Carson Earp, returning it 71 yards for a score to trail 14-11 with 10:50 remaining in the third. That opened the gate as the Chanticleers scored 35 unanswered points in the second half. Osharmar Abercrombie scored on a 26-yard run to give Coastal Carolina its first lead, 18-14, with 9:01 left in the third quarter.
The Chanticleer defense shut out Lamar in the second half.
