Jones has 228 yards, 2 TDs; UTEP beats Houston Baptist 42-10
EL PASO, Texas -- Aaron Jones ran for 228 yards and two touchdowns to help UTEP beat Houston Baptist 42-10 in a nonconference game Saturday night.
Ryan Metz was 16 of 21 for 191 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions for the Miners (3-6). Hayden Plinke caught seven passes for 77 yards and two TDs.
UTEP scored the first 28 points and led 35-3 late in the third quarter before Houston Baptist (3-6) reached the end zone for the only time on Max Staver's 29-yard pass to Terrance Peters.
Jones scored from 39 yards to open the scoring and from 62 yards to make it 28-0 with 13:36 left in the second quarter. He had 181 yards rushing at halftime; his second TD run tied him with Pug Gabriel for second on the Miners all-time list for rushing TDs at 27.
Peters had three catches for 50 yards and a touchdown for the Huskies.
