Graves, Cal Poly run to 55-48 win over Northern Colorado
SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. -- Dano Graves passed for two scores and ran for another, DJ Peluso and Kori Garcia had two rushing touchdowns apiece and Cal Poly beat Northern Colorado 55-48 on Saturday night.
Graves completed 14 of 15 passes for 191 yards and added 147 yards rushing on 18 carries. Joe Protheroe ran for 110 yards and a touchdown while Peluso and Garcia each had 88 yards rushing.
Kyle Sloter hit Hakeem Deggs for a 24-yard touchdown that pulled Northern Colorado (6-5, 4-4 Big Sky) within three with 13:33 to play. The Mustangs responded with a 12-play, 78-yard drive, capped by Protheroe's 6-yard run to make it 48-38.
Three plays after UNC's Jamie Falloon hit a 36-yard field goal, Graves scored on a 42-yard run to make it 55-41 with 2:03 remaining.
Garcia scored on runs of 6 and 2 yards and a 13-yard touchdown run by Peluso gave Cal Poly (7-4, 5-3) a 21-0 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Sloter, a senior with one career passing attempt coming into the season, threw for a school single-game record 438 yards and tied his own single-game record with six TD passes.
