Harvard wins battle of unbeaten teams, stops Cornell, 29-13
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- Semar Smith ran for three touchdowns and Joseph Viviano III threw for 229 yards and a score as Harvard won an Ivy League battle of unbeaten teams Saturday, stopping Cornell 29-13.
The Crimson (4-0, 2-0) entered the game as the preseason favorite to win the conference while Cornell's three victories are more than the Big Red have amassed the previous two seasons combined.
Viviano found Anthony Firkser with a 3-yard pass less than a minute into the game to put Harvard on the board.
Dalton Banks threw a pair of touchdown passes to Ben Rogers, the first covering 41 yards in the first quarter and the second, a 29-yard strike, came with 4:10 left in the game. Cornell (3-1, 1-1) missed the extra point attempt and Harvard recovered the Big Red onside kick.
Smith scored on runs of 4-, 6- and 4-yards and finished with 71 yards on 19 carries.
