Jenkins, big plays power Jacksonville St. over Liberty 48-19
LYNCHBURG, Va. -- Eli Jenkins passed for 224 yards and two touchdowns and ran for 121 yards and another two scores to help Jacksonville State beat Liberty 48-19 on Saturday night.
Jacksonville State (3-1) powered its way to victory with five touchdowns of more than 50 yards. Jenkins had a 76-yard TD run and connected with Roc Thomas for a 51-yard TD pass and with Shaq Davidson for a 69-yard scoring strike. Josh Barge scored on a 75-yard punt return and Justice Owens capped the scoring with an 87-yard TD run.
Thomas ran for 111 yards a touchdown and caught four passes for 69 yards.
Liberty (1-3) scored the only points in the third quarter on Stephen Calvert's 59-yard TD pass to Dante Shells, cutting the Gamecocks' lead to 17. But Jacksonville State iced it with a pair of touchdowns in the first 5:23 of the fourth to lead 41-10.
