Maine breaks late tie, holds off Rhode Island 28-21
KINGSTON, R.I. -- Josh Mack ran for 115 yards, including a 65-yard touchdown run, to help lead Maine to a 28-21 win over Rhode Island on Saturday.
Dan Collins threw for 147 yards and two scores for the Black Bears (4-3, 3-1 Colonial Athletic Association). Both of Collins' TD tosses went to Micah Wright, who finished with 97 yards.
Despite the close final score, Maine never trailed.
Mack went 65-yards on the opening drive for an early 7-0 Black Bears lead.
The Rams battled back, tying the score at 21-21 early in the fourth when Jordan Vazzano found Aaron Parker on a 65-yard touchdown strike. But two possessions later, Maine broke through with the game winner on a 43-yard throw-and-catch from Collins to Wright.
Rhode Island had a final chance to tie, but Vazzano's Hail Mary was intercepted.
Vazzano finished with 347 yards and two TDs, but was picked off five times.
