Weaver's arm, legs help Butler top Taylor 27-14
UPLAND, Ind. -- Malcom Weaver passed for 214 yards and rushed for 119 and a score, Duvante Lane rushed for two touchdowns, and Butler pulled away from NAIA Taylor on Saturday night en route to a 27-14 victory.
Lane opened the scoring with a 14-yard scamper with 8:10 left to play in the first quarter. Weaver scored on a 70-yard run midway through the second to give Butler (2-1) a 14-0 lead.
Taylor responded with a five-play, 75-yard scoring drive, getting on the board with Tim Barrett's 3-yard TD run with 4:05 left in the half. Daniel Boy's 8-yard touchdown reception from Everett Pollard evened the score at 14 less than three minutes into the third quarter.
A pair of Dre Bevelhimer field goals got the Bulldogs back in front, and Lane's 15-yard TD run late in the fourth quarter sealed it for Butler.
Barrett had 60 yards rushing and 109 receiving for the Trojans.
