Jones' 2 TDs propel Campbell to 33-27 OT win over Butler
BUIES CREEK, N.C. -- De'Shawn Jones rushed for 174 yards and two touchdowns, including a 25-yard scamper down the left sideline on the first play of overtime, lifting Campbell to a 33-27 win over Butler in the Pioneer Football League opener for both teams on Saturday night.
The game-winner came after Butler (2-2, 0-1) unsuccessfully attempted a fourth-and-17 in the Bulldogs' overtime possession. Quarterback Malcolm Weaver ran 15 yards on third-and-8, but a penalty negated the gain and Butler opted to go for it from the 32.
Butler had a chance to win the game in regulation, but Drew Bevelhimer slipped on a 50-yard field goal attempt.
Jones' first TD came on an 8-yard run on the first play of the second quarter gave Campbell (3-1, 1-0) a 7-0 lead.
Jared Joyner, who also rushed for two scores, gave Campbell a 27-20 lead with a 3-yard run early in the fourth, but running back Sam Shrader's pass to Malcolm Weaver later in the quarter tied it at 27.
