Toppings leads Alabama St. to 1st win, beats Ark.-Pine Bluff
MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- Quinterris Toppings accounted for three touchdowns and Kahlid Thomas ran for two more, leading Alabama State to its first win of the season, a 41-21 victory over Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Saturday.
Toppings, who finished with 144 yards passing, ran for two scores and hit Nygel Lee on a 26-yard scoring strike as time expired in the first half for a 21-7 advantage.
Toppings, who passed for 248 yards against Southern and 323 against Texas Southern last week, finished with 172 total yards for Alabama State (1-4, 1/3 Southwestern Athletic Conference). Thomas rushed for 143 yards on 22 carries, giving him 424 yards for the season.
Brandon Duncan led Arkansas-Pine Bluff (1-4, 1-2), throwing for 342 yards and two TDs. Cody Swain pulled in seven for 142 yards and Willie Young grabbed eight for 117 yards.
Alabama State limited the Golden Lions to just 29 yards rushing on 29 tries.
