A week after welcoming a new quarterback to its already crowded battle under center, Georgia's football team watched as its younger contender walked away from the competition.
Bulldogs coach Mark Richt announced on Thursday that redshirt freshman Jacob Park has decided to transfer. Park, a former ESPN 300 member and the No. 4 dual-threat quarterback prospect in the 2014 recruiting class, left spring behind redshirt sophomore Brice Ramsey and junior Faton Bauta. Earlier this month, former Virginia quarterback Greyson Lambert transferred to Georgia as a graduate student with two years of eligibility left and the ability to play immediately.
"We've had conversations during which we discussed all the viewpoints," Richt said in a statement released by the school. "In the end, he feels like the opportunity for significant playing time would be better at another school. I can understand his decision, and we'll support him in finding a good fit at another institution."
Park, who is a native of Goose Creek, South Carolina, worked primarily with the Bulldogs' scout team in 2014. As a senior at Stratford High School, Park threw for 3,665 yards and 33 touchdowns, including four in Stratford's Class AAAA Division II state championship.
"I want to thank Coach Richt and Georgia for the experience I've had in Athens," Park said in the release. "I'm grateful for the opportunity but now look forward to what's next in my college career."
Ramsey is the presumed favorite to win Georgia's starting quarterback job after playing in eight games last year, passing for 333 yards and three touchdowns.
