GREEN BAY, Wis. -- No. 4 Notre Dame lost two defensive starters to injury in Sunday's 41-13 victory over Wisconsin, as safety Brauntae Johnson and defensive tackle Jason Onye exited because of lower left leg injuries.
The team ruled both players out in the third quarter, and Johnson and Onye appeared on the Notre Dame sideline wearing protective boots on their left feet. Each recorded one tackle in the first half against the Badgers at Lambeau Field.
After the win, Notre Dame coach Marcus Freeman did not have an update on either player, saying only that he was told they would not return. Freeman will meet with the team's medical staff Monday.
Johnson, a junior, finished second on the team with four interceptions and fourth with 48 tackles last season, starting eight games and appearing in 10. Onye, a sixth-year senior, started nine games in 2025 and recorded 26 tackles, including 1.5 sacks.
Notre Dame next plays Saturday, when it hosts Rice.
