IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Jeremiah Smith is Ohio State's receptions and touchdown receptions king.
Smith continued his blistering start to the season by recording his 35th and 36th career touchdown catches against No. 14 Iowa on Saturday. A 57-yard scoring grab midway through the third quarter pushed Smith ahead of Chris Olave on Ohio State's all-time list. Smith later broke Emeka Egbuka's career receptions record of 205.
The junior from Miami Gardens, Florida, also tied Marvin Harrison Jr. for Ohio State's career record with his 15th game of 100 receiving yards or more. Smith has at least 100 receiving yards and a receiving touchdown in four of five games this season, all before halftime. According to ESPN Research, he has had eight such games in his career, trailing only Alabama's DeVonta Smith, the 2020 Heisman Trophy winner who had 10, for the most by an FBS player in the past 10 years.
Smith is the first Big Ten player to record at least 750 receiving yards and nine receiving touchdowns in the first five games of a season since former Ohio State star Terry Glenn had 752 yards and nine touchdowns in 1995.
Smith needs three more touchdown catches to tie Michigan's Braylon Edwards for the Big Ten career record.
